The teacher plans instruction that supports every student in meeting rigorous learning goals by drawing upon knowledge of content areas, curriculum, cross-disciplinary skills, and pedagogy, as well as knowledge of learners and the community context.

We find priority standards because it helps make sure every kid is caught up and knows what they are doing. We need to ensure no one falls behind so we move in small steps. No, we should still teach it and then assess the students to make sure they understand and know all the content. We use the “I can” statements and we go through a list during the year and see if “I can” is up to the standard. You want to distribute them over units because you do not want to overload students with major information.
The teacher and the teacher’s colleagues are in charge of designing the unit of study within a curriculum. We take all of the standards and the teachers determine how they are crunched together, unless there is a curriculum director in the school. A curriculum map is more of the lessons you will be teaching throughout the year. As opposed to a pacing guide, which is a timeline of how long those plans are going to take and how much you can realistically fit in. Teachers create pacing guides and curriculum maps by sitting with colleagues. They go over the whole entire year and determine how long each subject of study should take.
To unpack standards we find the verbs and nouns and we highlight/circle and underline them. Then we create the ‘I can” statements. Then we put those “I can” statements into six different categories depending on where they stand. The reason you have to unpack the standards with colleagues is to; make sure everyone is on the same page, it is hard to do alone and to make sure nothing is left out. You unpack standards with students because so they can present the “SWBAT” (students will be able to) show the ability that they can use the “I can” statements. Once the students know how to do itn you keep putting it into lesson plans because you will keep using that material for later on and throughout the year. We apply and then we keep reapplying.
An essential question is a question that rounds up a unit and there can be multiple questions. A big idea is what answers the essential questions. We bother asking these questions because it gives us a focus to think about while we are teaching these topics. We have the ideas because we need to come to a conclusion my the end of the unit.
Overall I am comfortable with the beginning of the course material. But I am a little confused with the later on material we are starting right now. However in class today (10/3) I think I caught myself up on a lot.
These are the standards we worked on through out class and reviewed them. We went These are the standards, main ideas, the units of study and priority standards.
This will make me a better teacher because I will be able to use these stratagies in the classroom helping kids learn. I can use the priority standards and unit of study will help me make a lesson plan. And while teaching I can use all of these stratagies to help me.
