HIS 276 Midterm Reflection

When taking this class I had really no idea what to expect, but I chose it because an interesting name and something that was pretty interesting. I soon realized this was going to be a very interesting class and a class that would captivate me based off of some of the information that we talked about. I found it really interesting how we talked about the simple things in our world and made them so complex and have so much more meaning than I would have thought they meant. One example of this is natural motion. I never really thought too much of it, however now with this knowledge in my head it is a totally different concept to me. I also learned about how different areas of science and religion had big factors to do with how they went about conducting science, and medical treatments. The most impressive of them all however is, the Chinese methods and how they had a huge list of a bunch of different things are were about to tell what they needed to do. Another medical treatment is the mummification process how they would take organs out and it would help with the whole mummification process and they did that every time.

Overall the whole idea of these societies and empires creating and recording and translating what they had done throughout their time is very impressive. I think some of this stuff is very much overlooked. I never thought twice about some of this stuff, especially the stars and how they were able to track them and know what was when and how to tell. They would use the stars to help them know when to plant stuff and when it would be more rainy. Today we look at that as basic knowledge but back then this was the only calendar they had.

End of year:

After going through this course I have learned so much about the history iof scienc, and learned a lot about where science came from and how it all went about. A lot of things stood out to me and I learned a lot. Some things that stood out to me was the motion and the starts and planets. I have always been pretty interested in stars and how they work. So when we talked about the constellations it really grasped my interest. The other thing I really enjoyed learning about was the lab that we did, along with Galileo. Doing the lab really helped me understand the whole process as to how they went about their experiments. I think while doing the hands on aspect really helped alot for myself, as I learn best while being hands on, and made me understand that Galileo may not have been totally right, and that it is hard to prove that he was right during his time. He used water drops, which is not accurate in between the drops themselves. Also the way he did the calculations did notn work, as he just did it in his head. This all helps me relize that in today world we are so advanced compared to all these people and what they had todo. Now we have all different type of special equipment and can help us now do wonders to the world. This all ties back to the modern world. From space, when we talks about the telescope it paved the way for our world and set us all up for success. Also with the small things such the the microscope, when we talked about that it had the same effect as the telescope. Overall, this was a good semester and I really learned a lot about science and how old science has a big effect on modern world science.
