3. Active Reading

When active reading it helped me out a lot when writing and essay and I am thankful for it. For Small Changes, I took the active reading strategies, 1 being Understanding, 2 being Questioning, 3 being Challenging, 4 being Extending, 5 being Exploring Relations, and 6 being Rhetorical. And on the text I would number them which category they go under and on a piece of paper I would write the notes down and what I thought was important. On page 142 (no picture of page) I annotated just the setting and everything, I said on the paper that it was in North Carolina and it was in the 1960’s and they were college kids. I put this as number one which is Understanding, because it helped me understand the text and introduced it all. Next on page 143, I underlined the majority of the first paragraph on that page. On the paper wrote that, it was. not uncommon for segregation to happen in the south in these times. The text talked about how students were not allowed in a coffee shop because they were black and it was the south. in the 1960’s which means there was segregation. I put this under 4 because of what I wrote because I extended to text in my annotation. On page 144 I circled the work solipsist, I circled this and did 2 for this as a questions because I did not know what the word meant. For the second text I decided todo “Men Explaining Things to Me” and provided 2 pages of text along with the notes. For the first and second one I did 1 because I was just being introduced to the text and learning names and location of the story which was Aspen. Also I used 1 again when the book was introduced I just wrote down the book name. On page 2 on the last annotation of the page I wrote down how the world was changing with technology, I wrote 4 because I extend its mean in short terms of what it was saying in the reading.
